.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

1) High pressure will continue to drive mild and dry weather
conditions today.

2) Precipitation chances start on Friday in the north and Friday
night in all areas and persist at times into next week.
Confidence remains low on the details.

3) Cold front Saturday evening will bring much colder
temperatures that will continue for several days.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Upper level ridge will maintain mild and dry weather conditions
across forecast area today.

Ensembles continue to bring through a backdoor cold front this
evening which then returns as a warm front on Friday night. Friday
will be somewhat colder than today especially in the northeast.
There will be chances for light snow on Friday in the north which
will be on the southern edge of a larger snow system impacting
southern Saskatchewan. Then, there will be chances for light
mixed precipitation Friday night and Saturday morning in most
areas with the warm front. The main cold front will then push
through Saturday night with much colder air. Precipitation chances
will be mainly south of the Missouri River Saturday night with
the cold front. Wind chills will likely be cold enough in the
north Sunday morning and again Sunday night and Monday morning for
Cold Weather Advisories.

Between Sunday night and Tuesday, models and ensembles have
varying amounts of snow forecasted with moisture overrunning the
cold front to the south. Highest snow amounts are expected in the
southwest part of the forecast area. 48 hour NBM snow
probabilities for at least one inch of snow from Sunday night
through Tuesday vary from 30 percent in the NE to 70 percent in
the SW. The probability for at least 4 inches of snow in the same
time frame ranges from less than 10 percent in the NE to 30-40
percent in the SW.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Confidence is high for mild and dry weather today. Confidence is
far lower for precipitation chances starting on Friday and
continuing into early next week given the scattered nature and
precipitation type issues - at least initially, before more
widespread snow becomes possible early next week. Even there
though, consensus is starting to emerge that it may remain most
focused over the southwest zones. Confidence is greater on the
return of Arctic temperatures starting Saturday night and
continuing for several days.

that will be at MVFR/IFR levels.
